About this destination

A vibrant hub for contemporary art and culture in the southeastern United States. Founded in 1956, SECCA is dedicated to showcasing innovative and thought-provoking art from regional, national, and international artists. Located in a picturesque setting, the center combines the charm of its historical architecture with modern galleries, offering a unique and stimulating environment for art enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

I have been going to SECCA since I was a child. How fortunate I was to grow up in the "City of the Arts" - Winston-Salem - as I was exposed to this and other arts venues around the city and got a real appreciation for them. I try to go to each new exhibition, and although they are not as numerous as in past years, they are always good and thought-provoking. I'll echo another reviewer here by saying that many times I feel like this is my own private gallery, as they are not that many visitors, which is a real shame as this space reflects both the contemporary and the historic (the galleries are attached to the old Hanes home circa 1929, which has some rooms to explore, as well). Best of all, the price can't be beat - FREE!! If you are a visitor to the area, or a local who hasn't discovered this museum yet, I strongly encourage you to pay it a visit!

SECCA's role in the community extends beyond its walls through collaborations with local and regional organizations. These partnerships enhance the cultural landscape of Winston-Salem and the surrounding area, positioning SECCA as a key player in the region's artistic and cultural development. Whether it's through groundbreaking exhibitions, educational initiatives, or community collaborations, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art is a beacon for contemporary art and a gathering place for creative minds in the Southeast.
